One of the Ohio state universities, not sure which one, did a study on perceptions of Stephen Colbert's show. Basically they found that conservatives didn't get the joke, that is, they thought Colbert was being truthful and not satirical.
This means one of two things: either conservatives are dumber than average, or this is an example of confirmation bias. The former would be funnier, but the latter makes more sense.
