The super combined is a race consisting of one run of slalom plus one run of downhill and the skier with the lowest combined time wins. Miller is an interesting case because he started his career as a slalom and giant slalom (the technical events--slower speeds and more turns) skier but has progressed into being a terrific speed event (Super-G and downhill--higher speeds, less turns) skier. Hopefully he can keep it together in the Olympics and put up a strong showing.
Interesting. Is one leg generally more important than the other? In swimming, breaststroke is really important in the individual medley, as it's on the 3rd leg, when most people start to get tired. Michael Phelps' worst stroke is breaststroke, which is the opposite of most IM specialists.
The general rule is that the faster the speed, the smaller the time gaps. Usually this means that the slalom run is where you can make up the most time. However, you must be good at both since guys who struggle in one discipline rarely win super combineds.
