It doesn't take an astrophysicist to read the clear astrological signs that the football gods have delivered us this year. It is no coincidence that the start of the NFL season falls on the birthday of Pittsburgh's golden daughter (Lorrie). This year the football gods have tipped their hand early and will be favoring the team from the Steel City to pick up ring number seven (for those who are keeping score at home, that's the one for the other index finger). The Steelers arch-nemesis, Mr. Tim Tebow, has been forced out of his former home in Denver by the second greatest quarterback of all time (second only to Pittsburgh native, Dolphin great, and CBS disaster Dan Marino). As a further insult, Tebow has found himself in a backup role to the inimitable Mark Sanchez. Thus, it looks like clear sailing for the Steelers as long as Rex Ryan doesn't do anything rash (foot pun not intended but that interpretation is encouraged).
Rules:
For those that are new: pick a team to LOSE each week without repeating teams throughout the course of the season. If your team wins, then you're out. You can choose anytime before kickoff of the game that you are picking. Leave your pick as a comment to this post.

Week 1 is always a Pick Em mess because teams change significantly over the off-season, so bad teams last year are suddenly good this year and vice versa. However, it is usually safe to operate under the following principle:
ReplyDeleteDon't mess with Vader.
That's why I'm taking the Belichick's Pats to take down the Titans.
TITANS to lose.

ReplyDeleteI'm picking the Cowboys to lose to the Giants tonight, for three reasons:
ReplyDelete(a) most importantly, it didn't require me to scroll down to figure out who else is playing
(b) if the Cowboys indeed lose, Stan's agony will be a nice addition to my relief at having survived
(c) if the Cowboys win, I won't have to pay attention to football (read: scroll down) for a while!

It being week 0, Houston hasn't had enough time for all of their players to get injured. As a result, Miami will lose.

The debut of the 2-QB system in NY will fall flat on its face...at least in Week 1. Jets lose to the now-awesome Bills defense

Vespe, that comment garners an extra *hug* next time I see you. Bob Griffin will only get better this season, so I better grab him before he gets too good.
ReplyDeleteRedskins to lose.
Miami will lose. You heard it here first: Texans = Super Bowl Champions.
ReplyDeleteSt. Louis is going down. So are at least three Texans, but that team will probably still win this week.
ReplyDeleteIt stings.

It's always bad to count your chickens in one basket (yay mixed metaphors!), but I am both picking the Colts to lose here and the Bears to win in my other survivor pool.
ReplyDeleteCUTLER!
Redskins.

Late pick, but Bengals.
ReplyDeleteCain
Also late; also Bengals.
ReplyDeleteAlso also: fantasy defaulted to team kelsey and I spaced on changing it. Apologies.
Fear not! You can still change your team name.
DeleteAlso, Lorrie went Bungals, too. meow.
